"You always say don't start with the tears, you are not a baby, but you still hold me and pet me when I do, saying, "I don't want to see your tears."
You are always busy, but you still check up on me every day, and every time I run to you, you open your arms and hug me tight"
"The Hand That Holds Me" mirrors the complexities of human relationships. In the words accompanying the artwork, we discover a touching dialogue between the two figures. The first lady, who is being held, speaks of her vulnerability and the solace she finds in the unwavering support of her companion. This emotional refuge, a haven in times of tears and despair, is beautifully symbolized by the artwork's tender embrace. Despite her trials and tribulations, she remains a steadfast pillar of support, checking in daily and offering solace with open arms. Her love for her friend shines through in her actions and words.
"The Hand That Holds Me" encapsulates the universal struggle of witnessing a loved one grapple with mental health issues. It serves as a poignant reminder that support and empathy are vital, not only during times of crisis but throughout life's journey. In the end, it underscores the significance of being there for one another, holding each other close, and sharing the burden of pain and sorrow.
About Artist

Through her art, Olaosun aims to create a connection with her viewers, making them feel the intensity of the story she tells.
The process of researching and working with different materials has brought Olaosun new challenges, and new ideals, which encourage her to continue creating multiple layers in her artwork. Her dedication to self-teaching has allowed her to develop her skills in pencil and painting and has given her the confidence to express herself through her art.
Olaosun Oluwapelumi was born and raised in Osun State, Nigeria, and currently resides in Ibadan. She holds a BSc in Geography and Planning Science from Adekunle Ajasin University. Recently she used Green and Black in her works which symbolize peace and tranquility, as well as hope, harmony, and optimism. Black is a color of many sentiments. It could be associated with grief, mourning, or the occult. Mystery, bleakness, heaviness, depression, rebellion, fear. But it is also significantly associated with the strength and resilience of the African people.
She loves to create through the pains of people around her, to give them hope and let them know that they are not alone.
Olaosun's works have been exhibited locally and internationally in galleries and art fairs. She continues to create art that sparks emotions and creates positive change, and her works are a testament to her dedication to her craft and her desire to make a difference in the world.

Your purpose is to simply exist, without identifying as something specific. The ultimate truth is encapsulated in the phrase 'I am that I am'. The path to realizing this truth is elegantly simple: just 'Be still'. Stillness means letting go of your ego and the labels you've assigned yourself. Any definition or identity you cling to is a source of suffering. Release your attachment to thinking 'I am this' or 'I am that'. To discover your true nature, all you need to do is quiet your mind and be present.
