About the Item
This body of work was inspired by the wrongful execution of a fourteen-year-old George Stinney Jr.
Two little white Girls, one age 11, and the other age 7, went missing one afternoon while riding their bikes. Later, their bodies were found in a ditch, beaten with a railroad spike. It was a tragedy. The town was angry. They wanted someone to blame. They said George Stinney saw the girls last. They said he confessed.
But there was no record of that confession, no lawyer, no parent in the room, no evidence, just a scared Black boy alone in a room full of white men. No one will ever know what he said, or if he said anything at all.
Within days, he was arrested. In less than two hours, he was tried. In ten minutes, the all-white jury decided his fate. Guilty of a crime he didn’t understand. Sentenced to death by electrocution. Fourteen-year-old black boy!
His mother cried. -His father begged. But the town didn’t listen. (June 16, 1944.)
Until 2014, when a judge finally said the words that should’ve been said in 1944: “This child was failed by justice.” “His conviction was vacated. But George was long gone. He had no second chance. No grown-up years. No tomorrow.”
Today, we remember George Stinney not as a name in a history book, but as another Black life that should have mattered. His story is not just about the past.
It’s about now. About every child who grows up under the weight of suspicion. About every courtroom that still isn’t fair. About every breath that has been taken too soon. So say his name, George Stinney Jr. And remember: BLACK LIVES ARE NOT DISPOSABLE

About Artist
Tosin Ogunniyi is a multidisciplinary artist from Eruwa, Oyo State, Nigeria. He embarked on his artistic journey by obtaining a National Diploma in Fine Art from The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, in 2016/2018. His exposure to the realm of art continued with an impactful industrial training at Oluwole Omofemi's painting studio in Ibadan, where he absorbed influences from the master's distinctive artistic style during 2018/2019. Currently pursuing his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, Tosin's artistic endeavours are rooted in providing a unique narrative that illuminates the diverse experiences, challenges, and triumphs of individuals in his society.
Raised predominantly by his mother, a single parent who faced the challenges of life after losing her husband, Tosin draws inspiration from the bittersweet essence of life. His art captures the essence of respecting feminine figures in society and the broader black community. Merging charcoal and acrylics (mixed media), he skillfully represents the black and conceptual essence in his work. With themes centred around love, hope, faith, romance, body positivity, and encouragement for kindness, Tosin's art aims to provide a platform for voices that may be underrepresented or marginalized. Through his meticulous observation of individuals, he emphasizes the importance of fairness and equality, challenging beliefs of superiority. Oluwatosin's compelling works have found a space in private collections both at home and abroad.

Oluwatosin Ogunniyi is a young talented artist born in 1998 around the rural rusty roof of Eruwa town. that hail from Eruwa Oyo state Nigeria. he had his (ND) National diploma at Ibarapa polytechnic Eruwa where he studied fine Art, and he currently studying for a degree in creative Art at the University of Lagos He continues his quest for knowledge as he had his industrial training at Oluwole Omofemi studio in Ibadan which has enriched his career to date.
