About the Item
This artwork is inspired by one of the issues amongst many in the traditional Yoruba African society where I'm still growing up as the son of the soil. As I was growing up and up till now, there's this mediocre advice given to us children who were born from a low-class background by society which is backed up by the Adage that goes thus ("se bí o ti mo" which translates to cut your cloth according to your size).
Society expects us to follow the lowly pattern of our family as there are no opportunities or support coming from the family. Even though we accept and embrace this fate, we still have expectations: expectations of breaking limits, expectations of altering this lowly perception, Expectations of taking space one day. We have expectations because deep down within us we know we want more, deserve more, and are worth more.
We have expectations that one day we would prove to society that "eni tá ro pèé kòle pa àgó, ó wá kólé alárinrin" which means the one we thought can't buy an ordinary hut has now built a mansion". Though our hands are tied now, nevertheless, we still have expectations.
