About the Item
This charming Scottish Victorian oil painting is by noted Scottish artist Patrick William Orr. Painted circa 1880, this marine portrait is of two fishermen sailors at sea, sorting their nets. A lovely nautical painting full of character with great brushwork.
Signed lower right.
Provenance. Framed Labels verso: James McClure
Sons; together with partial artist's label.
Condition. Oil on canvas, 22 inches by 18 inches unframed and in good condition.
Frame. Housed in an ornate gilt frame, 30 inches by 26 inches framed and in good condition.
Patrick William Orr (b. 1865 fl. 1889-1933) A Scottish painter of genre scenes, portraits and landscapes who lived most of his life in Glasgow. He exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute between 1889-1933 and the Royal Scottish Academy between 1892-98.
