This striking mid-19th century portrait depicts an elderly Quaker gentleman with a solemn expression and piercing eyes arresting the viewer’s gaze. Clad in a simple black suit and modest bow tie, he embodies the Quaker ideals of humility and plain dress, his austere presence quietly commanding respect. Unsigned. Well presented in a gilt frame with a laurel running pattern to the outer edge. On canvas on stretchers.
