About the Item

A nicely detailed American School oil on canvas portrait of a New England manufacturer banker sitting at a desk signing bank notes with a mill in the background, unsigned, and housed in a simple molded giltwood frame. Notes on verso suggest a New England textile factory or mill, circa 1830-1840. This portrait was used as the full cover of Paper Money magazine, March/April 2008 issue (see last photo). Dimensions: 36.25 in H x 29.13 in W, actual; 37.75 in H x 30.75 in W x 1.5 in D. Ref: 14031
