An Exceptional Quality Orientalist Portrait of "A Moorish Chief from Algeria", circa 1880.
Oil on canvas painting depicting a Moorish chief / guard, dressed in traditional garb (burnous) and head scarf with weapons.
In original moorish beaded wood frames, (840 pieces of beads per frame) with mother of pearl inserts.
Canvas: 24" high x 20" wide
Frame: 35" high x 30" wide
An excellent painting for any orientalist collector.
Very good condition, no damages, ready to hang.
A burnous, also burnoose, bournous or barnous, is a long cloak of coarse wool fabric with a pointed hood, often white in color, traditionally worn by Berber and other Maghrebi men. In the Maghreb, the color of the burnous may be white, beige, or dark brown
