About the Item

An extremely fine nineteenth-century oil portrait of a young lady in profile, dating to the second half of the century. The sitter wears a silky cerulean dress adorned with delicate lace and a black velvet bow. Her porcelain skin glows softly against her dark hair as she gazes into the distance, imparting an ethereal quality to the scene. The artist has achieved remarkable subtlety of form across the portrait, but particularly in the waves and undulations of the hair, appearing to be a 'coiffure l'imperatrice', a particularly fashionable hairstyle of the period. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a fine antique gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers. Image size: 32 x 27cm.
