About the Item

French School of the 19th century Portrait of a young man, 1891 Signed (illegible) and dated 91 on the lower right Oil on canvas 46 x 38 cm Framed 52 x 44 In good condition, recently cleaned some minor restorations visible under UV light, stretched on a new stretcher The signature on this fine impressionist portrait has unfortunately not been deciphered at this stage, but the touch and mastery denote an original artistic personality. Very energetic and self-confident, as can be seen from the vigorous way in which he signed. The question arises as to whether it could be a self-portrait by the artist. The pose and the gaze suggest this, as does the relative blurriness of the hand, which could have been busy painting. In any case, One has all the clues.
