About the Item

Portrait From The Dutch School, Circa 1670, Young Lady In A Garden Before A Balustrade. Dutch school, ca. 1670. Gouache on parchment laid down on a wooden support (oak). Dimensions: 17 × 14 cm (without frame); 19 × 21 cm (with frame). The painting depicts a young lady shown half-length, positioned in front of a balustrade accompanied by an architectural column. With one hand she holds the edge of her dress, a measured gesture characteristic of female portraiture around 1670. The hairstyle, with a central parting and softly arranged locks framing the face, reflects the fashion of the period and supports the proposed dating. The compositional scheme combining column, balustrade and garden relates to the reduced-format portrait of representation current in the Netherlands around 1670. The use of parchment is consistent with small-scale works intended for refined settings; the gouache technique allows for a precise rendering of the flesh tones and textiles. On the reverse are numerous impressions of red sealing wax bearing partially legible noble coats of arms, together with traces of earlier mountings, attesting to a documented collecting provenance and the work's passage through previous collections.

Portrait Of A Young Girl In A Lilac Dress With A Black Bow. Circa 1860. SIgned.
Located in Firenze, IT
Portrait of a young girl in a lilac dress with a black bow. Circa 1860. Signature below right, partially visible. Size with frame 59cm x 49cm Size without frame 33cm x 24cm The portrait depicts a young girl with an elegant hairstyle, her hair carefully tied back. Dressed in the fashion of the 1860s, her light lilac dress reflects the synthetic aniline colors, a novelty in fashion at the time. A black bow at the neck and slightly black straps accentuate her attire. Represented at mid-length, with a mysterious and melancholic gaze, suggesting a mourning endured over a year ago. The portrait, executed in pastels, chalks, and charcoals on paper, highlights the mastery and speed of the artist's execution. Framed in a vintage oval frame...

Ca. 1820 Portrait of a Woman. Léon Cogniet (1794-1880, Paris), attributed. French school of 19th century. Tecnicque: oils on canvas. Dimensions: 70cm x 61cm 20th century wooden frame. Old attribution to Léon Cogniet (1794-1880, Paris) is inscribed on the wooden frame. Portrait of the restoration period, post Napoleonic wars. Stylistically the painting is found in the transition period from the late Empire period to the beginning of Romanticism. The new artistic trends can be seen in the increased naturalism, representation of the landscape/nature, in the contrasts, and in a greater emotionality of the person represented. Detailed but loose is the way to describe the winter dress...

Portrait Lady Woman Voet Paint Oil on canvas Old master 17th Century Italian Art
By Jacob Ferdinand Voet (Antwerp 1639 - Paris 1689)
Located in Riva del Garda, IT
Jacob Ferdinand Voet (Antwerp 1639 - Paris 1689) Atelier Portrait of the Young Ortensia Mancini, Duchess of La Meilleraye (Rome 1646 - Chelsea 1699) Oil on canvas 75 x 61 cm. - exquisite gilded and lacquered wooden double frame 105 x 91 cm. The beautiful painting depicting the young and attractive Duchess Ortensia Mancini is part of the refined portraiture of Jacob Ferdinand Voet (Antwerp 1639 - Paris 1689). Of Flemish origin, the painter achieved great success with the aristocratic families of Rome - where he stayed from 1663 to 1679 - thanks to the famous series of portraits commissioned by Cardinal Flavio Chigi, depicting the most enchanting women of the time, and now housed in the Palazzo Chigi in Ariccia. The paintings became so popular that the artist was repeatedly asked to reproduce replicas and similar versions of them: the 'cabinet des dames' was thus one of the Roman fashions of the 17th century, justifying the large number of female portraits attributable to his workshop that gravitated on the market. Voet flaunted in his portraits a peculiar softness and grace in the rendering of the complexions, a subtle voluptuousness in the description of the lips, entrusted to small brushstrokes of red, a sense of calm fixity in the pose, all characteristics that are immediately reflected in the work under examination. Our young effigy, Hortense Mancini...
