Given Vincent Van Gogh’s mental state when he painted his September 1889 self-portrait, possibly his last, it would be risky business by another artist to produce his own self-portrait inspired by the master’s brilliant work. San Francisco painter Henrico (Richio) Galvez rose to the challenge. He has set himself to jibe with the original, complete with the matching ginger beard and mustache, and similarly attired in an unstructured light blue jacket. But in Galvez’s case, amid a cosmic explosion of impasto pointillist energy, perhaps more reflective of our time.
