Vadim Zang is a classically trained artist whose work merges academic rigor with contemporary sensibility. Deeply inspired by old masters such as Michelangelo, Velázquez, Sargent, and Rembrandt, Zang dedicated his early years to studying their techniques and traditions. After intensive training in Russian and European academic art, he moved to the United States in 1992 to explore American modern conceptual art and expand his artistic vocabulary.
In the U.S., he painted alongside prominent contemporary masters including Steve Huston, Mark Westermoe, Richard Schmid, and Jeremy Lipking. Zang is especially known for his mastery of the alla prima technique, capturing the spirit of his subjects in one expressive session. His brushwork emphasizes spontaneity and emotional depth, distilling complex forms into elegantly simple, yet powerful compositions.
Vadim is also a respected educator, having developed a foundational program in tonal drawing that serves as a stepping stone to alla prima painting. His teaching reflects the same clarity and energy found in his artwork.
Alongside his fine art career, Vadim worked as a graphic artist and art director throughout the 1990s and 2000s. He created designs for iconic brands like Guess, Harley-Davidson, and Hard Rock Cafe, as well as musical legends including Cher and Paul McCartney. Despite his success in design, painting remains the heart of his creative journey.
