About the Item

A fine pair of oil portraits of a lady gentleman, probably husband wife, attributed to Zedekiah Belknap (1781-1858). Belknap was born in Auburn, MA and graduated from Dartmouth College, becoming known for his portrait painting throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, and Massachusetts. Each are oil on panel, unsigned, with some noticeable heat damage bubbling around each figure, and housed in a period molded ebonized frames with gilt highlight. Dimensions: Each measure 27.13 in H x 22.5 in W; 30 in H x 25.5 in W x 2 in D.
