Charles Monginot was a French painter from the Briennois region, in the northeast of the Aube department in Champagne. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the 1850s in the workshop of Thomas Couture, and made his debut at the Salon in Paris in 1859 (medals in 1864 and 1899). He primarily painted portraits and still lifes, as well as a few genre scenes. Charles Monginot was among the highly decorative painters who were appreciated at the court of Napoleon III. He was a friend of Édouard Manet (he appears in the painting "Music in the Tuileries Gardens," painted by Manet in 1862, alongside the artists Charles Baudelaire, Théophile Gautier, Baron Taylor, and the painters Zacharie Astruc, Albert de Balleroy, Henri Fantin-Latour, and Alfred Stevens).
Charles Monginot's paintings are held in numerous museums in France (notably the Petit Palais in Paris, and museums in Carcassonne, Chartres, Metz, Mulhouse, Narbonne, and Nice).
Our painting represents an interior filled with various oriental-style accessories: rugs, fabrics, a lamp, a bowl... in a very warm atmosphere, with beautiful, warm colors and the abundance of objects (the rich fabrics, the elegant lamp, the books, the ceramic bowl) arranged in a close frame. Perhaps it is a corner of the artist's studio (the collection of objects, the painting hanging on the wall in the back).

Beautiful 19th century frame
Georges Paul Masure was a Parisian painter in the Montparnasse area. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in the years 1900/1910.
Our painting is the painting he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1913 under the number 2032 and titled "Flowers and Japaneries". It represents a still life with a bunch of flowers, a magnificent basket of oranges, a pomegranate and a Japanese sculpture with a little fisherman with a red Koi carp. 2500 years ago, when the son of Confucius was born, he received as a gift from King Shoko of Ro, a fish that was first called Koi. It represents the symbol of strength, because this fish was the only one able to go up the steam of the Yellow River. Owning a koi will long remain the prerogative of the Japanese nobility.
The dominant colors in the painting are orange and red. And in Japanese Shinto...
