Dani Humberstone
Discover new paintings by artist Dani Humberstone. Dani Humberstone uses the symbolism of ripe fruit to illustrate the narrative. Painting directly from life allows her to translate three dimensions into two and capture the essence or life force of the subject. Individual fruits damage easily; so as they slowly age she tracks their gradual decay in the painting as she works. Fruit has been used metaphorically in art and language for centuries. It has helped Illustrate Fairy Tales, Mythology, The Bible and Shakespeare.etc An apple in Renaissance painting was symbolic of ‘a fallen woman’ and we still use fruit analogies to describe ourselves and our lives today. In her own work the artist also uses elements of abstraction, landscape or line drawing to hint at a deeper narrative within and opening the door to unseen possibilities beyond the immediate image. Dani Humberstone paints in oils, predominantly Old Holland Classic Oilcolour - using transparent glazes over opaque colour which creates intense levels of luminosity and depth. Strong light and shade, chiaroscuro, give atmosphere and tone.

This study takes inspiration from historical “reclining nude” paintings, most of which were painted through the perspective of the male gaze. The artist wanted to change the narrative and make the woman feel more empowered and dominant in her situation, aware of the power she holds.

«My brother gave them a name» Still Life Oil Painting by Samantha Van Heest
By Samantha Van Heest
Located in Oslo, NO
This painting was inspired by the artists very first toy, a small blue giraffe, given to her as a day-old baby. It is something that has been around her whole life, and even though it is inanimate, there is a feeling of personification through the years of wear. Her brother as a baby would call giraffes “fa,” which is always a sweet memory she associate with this toy.

«Sh*t Happens» Figurative Oil Painting by Samantha Van Heest
By Samantha Van Heest

Shit happens sometimes. In this piece, the artist wanted to create an unsettling and claustrophobic space where people feel most private and vulnerable. Inspired by artist Tala Madani, she created a cartoon figure to act as the voyeur, a bright and unwelcome disturbance that cannot be ignored.

Imported Goods is an exploration of environment, especially focusing on the wellness of the ocean and the consequences of human plastic consumption. There is beauty in appreciation and replication, but it becomes a tragedy when it fully devours natural creation.

Disguise, Large Scale Abstract Art, Contemporary Still-Life Oil Painting

Original abstract oil painting on canvas, textural layers with hidden history, white space, journey in marks. Inspired by balance.
Kelly Washbourne, contemporary painter, available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Kelly Washbourne’s work is of immeasurable depth, texture and colour. Every canvas represents its own journey as paint is layered and balanced to create exquisite colour relationships, provoking both thought and emotion. Taking months to complete, each piece becomes an evolving record of the painting process offering glimpses into the hidden history of its creation. She is known for the bold expression of her large pieces which are full of texture, energy and vibrancy. Her small canvases, which have become popular exhibited in grids, offer an endless variety of shades and brush strokes and create a unique artwork with every composition. Graduating from Falmouth University in 2002 with a BA Hons in Fine Art, Kelly finds her inspiration in the freedom, bravery and liberty of The New York School artists. Expressionists of the 1940s and 50s such as Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning and Helen Frankenthaler incite confidence in her use of paint. She also draws reference from the beautifully energised artistry of Gillian Ayres and Peter Lanyon. Contemporary artists such as Cecily Brown and Rose...

'Still Life on a White Tablecloth' is an original painting by Deborah Windsor. It is a delightful small vases of summer flowers, a cactus and other objects sit on a crisp white tablecloth in this large Still Life painting. Contained in an elegant white frame this painting would look beautiful in a large kitchen or living room.
Deborah Windsor, painter and printmaker, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Moving back to Kent in her thirties Deborah taught art and returning to painting, her first love, developed her still-life painting style. Deborah works in oil and acrylics building up her paintings with layers and washes to achieve depth and richness. Pattern, texture, decoration, shapes and colour are all important elements in her work. Working from life is vital to Deborah so that she can capture the essence of her subject. Jugs and vases spill over with fresh flowers and she will often paint part of one of her abstract paintings in the background to add an extra element to the composition. Deborah’s work features vintage china and fabrics from her collections which with her mainly gentle colour palette give her work a homely, peaceful feeling. Deborah now lives with her husband Vincent and their ginger cat in part of a converted Victorian...

Heather Bloom, Impressionist Style Painting, Landscape Artwork, Tree Art
Located in Deddington, GB
This piece was inspired by a feeling of tranquillity walking through a bed of flowering heather. I loved the combination of birch trees amongst the beautiful pinks and lilacs. The soft lighting and sense of depth gives the painting a dreamy feel and draws you in. Mostly created with a pallet knife to create lovely textures.
