About the Item
Dhimitri Zonia (American, 1921 - 2016) was a painter and graphic artist known for marine scenes, postwar graphic work, and contemporary compositions. Born in Saint Louis, Missouri, he studied independently in Italy and England and later taught painting and drawing. Zonia worked as an editorial cartoonist for Postmark Prague (1984–1986) and Cry Justice Now (1998–2000), receiving first prize from the Missouri Media Association. He was commissioned for oil paintings by Anheuser-Busch and a poster for the McDonnell Planetarium, and served on the governing board of the St. Louis Artists Guild for years.
