About the Item

This artwork is a contemplative still life painted in oil with a tactile, impressionistic approach. Executed on an A3 sheet of paper, the work carries a sense of intimacy and directness — as if the viewer has stumbled upon a small, private moment frozen in pigment and light. The central presence of the porcelain cat introduces a quiet, symbolic axis around which the other objects seem to orbit: the cast-iron teapot, the small inkwell, the cylindrical container, and a loosely painted sketch pinned behind them. These forms are rendered through dense, layered brushstrokes that build up a textured surface, giving each object a soft sculptural quality. The palette is warm and earthy — ochres, muted greens, and deep iron tones — creating a grounded, meditative atmosphere. The composition feels almost archaeological: as though each object holds traces of past gestures, routines, and stories. The porcelain cat stands like a still sentinel, a gentle metaphor for observation, memory, and inner quiet. The interplay between the heavy iron and the fragile porcelain introduces a subtle philosophical contrast: weight and lightness, permanence and delicacy, function and symbolism. The sketch in the background — abstract, spontaneous — adds a layer of artistic introspection, hinting at the painter’s own process and internal dialogue. In this piece, the still life becomes a microcosm of thought. Objects are not simply depicted; they are studied, almost like specimen in a small visual laboratory. The artist captures data — light, structure, material — and transforms it into a poetic exploration of presence and silence. Elena Bulatova is a Munich-based painter working primarily in oil, often in the alla prima technique. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1981, she received early training in a children’s art school, laying the foundation for a lifelong dedication to painting. Her artistic practice is rooted in academic traditions, yet she continuously seeks freedom and individuality in her work. Bulatova often paints en plein air, working directly from life to capture the essence of a moment with immediacy and sensitivity. She is especially drawn to subjects found in her everyday surroundings—landscapes, people, portraits, and the human figure—exploring the natural beauty and quiet poetry of the visible world. Over the past twenty years, Bulatova has developed her skills through a combination of self-directed study and mentorship with experienced artists. She has studied in diverse settings, including traditional icon painting in Moscow and the AktHof in Munich. Currently, she is enrolled as an external student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, deepening her engagement with classical technique and contemporary practice. The gallery guarantees the uniqueness and high quality of this work of art, confirmed by a certificate of authenticity.
