About the Item

The Weight of Simple Things” is a quiet, observational still life executed in oil on paper. The artist works with a tactile, impressionistic technique, using layered, textured brushstrokes that give each object a sense of physical presence. Painted on an A3 sheet of paper, the composition feels intimate, as though the viewer is looking into a small moment of collected objects and light. The arrangement features ceramic and glass vessels — rounded, robust, and earthy — placed against a background of muted beige and green. This restrained palette creates a grounded, meditative atmosphere, allowing the shapes and volumes to speak through their material character rather than decorative detail. The interplay of surfaces is central: the dense opacity of the clay jar, the soft chalky tone of the white vessel, the reflective depth of the brown glass bottle, and the textured metal lid. Together, they form a subtle dialogue about weight, balance, and the beauty of everyday utilitarian forms. There is a philosophical undertone in how the objects are presented — not as mere things, but as quiet witnesses of time and human presence. The painting suggests that simplicity itself carries gravity, and that ordinary objects can become anchors of memory and contemplation. Elena Bulatova is a Munich-based painter working primarily in oil, often in the alla prima technique. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1981, she received early training in a children’s art school, laying the foundation for a lifelong dedication to painting. Her artistic practice is rooted in academic traditions, yet she continuously seeks freedom and individuality in her work. Bulatova often paints en plein air, working directly from life to capture the essence of a moment with immediacy and sensitivity. She is especially drawn to subjects found in her everyday surroundings—landscapes, people, portraits, and the human figure—exploring the natural beauty and quiet poetry of the visible world. Over the past twenty years, Bulatova has developed her skills through a combination of self-directed study and mentorship with experienced artists. She has studied in diverse settings, including traditional icon painting in Moscow and the AktHof in Munich. Currently, she is enrolled as an external student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, deepening her engagement with classical technique and contemporary practice. The gallery guarantees the uniqueness and high quality of this work of art, confirmed by a certificate of authenticity.
