Artist Erik van de Beek lives and works in Nijmegen. The modest Nijmegen native has become a well-known name in the art world for his remarkable still lifes and portraits.
His portraits are highly realistic, capturing the essence of the person as they truly are. People often exclaim, “Wow, it looks just like a photo!” Yet, that’s not quite right. It is more than a photo can show — it is the person as they truly are. To understand what we mean by this, it’s important to experience his paintings in person, to stand before them and immerse yourself in them.
We introduced the artist at Galerie Bonnard during the exhibition celebrating the 80th birthday of Cornelis le Mair. Erik van de Beek’s still lifes are distinguished by their unique compositions, wide variety of subjects, softly balanced color palette, and high degree of realism. As with his portraits, his still lifes must be seen to truly understand what we mean.
During our exhibition “A Winter Full of Color”, Erik shows that vibrant and tranquil can beautifully coexist!
