Georges Jessen (La Louvière, 1892 - Uccle, 1963), Natura morta con vaso di gigli, grande olio su tela firmato.
Questo luminoso dipinto raffigura un mazzo di gigli freschi in un vaso di opalina blu, accanto al quale, in un vaso più piccolo, spiccano dei denti di leone e, sul tavolo, un mazzo di margherite. I colori vivaci risaltano su uno sfondo scuro.
Georges Jessen è stato un pittore belga formatosi presso le Accademie di Mons (1915-1916) e di Bruxelles sotto la guida di Jean Delville e Constant Montald. Fu professore all'Académie de Saint-Gilles dal 1925 e ne fu direttore dal 1950 al 1960. Prediligeva paesaggi, fiori, ritratti e nudi. La sua pittura inizialmente rimane fedele ai fiamminghi, con una accentuata cura dei dettagli, uno studio scrupoloso delle luci e del colore; poi, con l'avanzare del XX secolo, si lascia andare a tecniche più moderne, sia nei dipinti di fiori che nei paesaggi di mare, da lui molto amati. Il nostro dipinto appartiene al primo periodo di Jessen.
Ottime condizioni, piccolo restauro professionale sullo sfondo in alto a destra praticamente invisibile; nella sua cornice originale in legno dorato.
