About the Item
Signed by artist.
Son of a building inspector, Georges Jeannin was a student of Victor Vincelet . He debuted at the Salon of 1868 and then exhibited there regularly. He obtained an honorable mention in 1876, a 3rd class medal in 1878 and a 2nd class medal in 1888. He was also distinguished by a bronze medal on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1889 , then by another during the 1900 Universal Exhibition , both in Paris. The Legion of Honor was awarded to him in 1903.
A recognized specialist in flower painting, this master of still lifes was particularly renowned for his talent in representing roses .
He also carried out jointly with Achille Cesbron the decoration of the Passage room of the Paris town hall .
Admitted to the Society of French Artists in 1878, member of the National Horticultural Society of France , he chaired the Fine Arts section from its creation in 1898 until his death.
He was also a professor at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de la Fleur
