Description:
This atmospheric gouache by Guy Nicod presents a richly layered abstract floral still life dominated by deep blues, greens, and jewel-tone purples. At the centre of the composition sits a dark rounded vase holding expressive strokes of foliage and flowers, including a vivid burst of red and yellow that suggests a blooming sunflower or zinnia. Surrounding it are multiple purple tulip-shaped flowers, their curved forms emerging from the dense arrangement of stems and greenery.
Throughout the painting, Nicod introduces additional vessels and ceramic forms, some abstracted almost beyond recognition, others more clearly defined along the lower edge and to the left.
