Description:
This richly atmospheric gouache by Guy Nicod is a striking interpretation of the traditional still life, infused with the artist’s bold modernist style and expressive colour vocabulary. At the centre of the composition sits a cluster of deep midnight-blue grapes, rendered with textured, layered strokes that give them both weight and luminosity. These appear in two groupings — one nestled against a pale ceramic plate, the other resting on the lower foreground, creating a sense of abundance and rhythm.
Surrounding the grapes is a beautifully arranged selection of vessels: a tall green wine bottle, a rounded glass decanter partly filled with red liquid, and an elegant stoneware jug painted in muted earthy tones.
