About the Item
"Porcelain” is a painting that pays homage to the natural beauty and timeless elegance of things around us in everyday life. All these porcelain things that appeared in my workshop by chance, began to live a new life on canvas. The dark blue background reveals the light forms and harmonizes with the nuances of pink in the flowers and gold in Chinese vase and figurine. The medium used is oil on canvas, which allows to capture the delicate textures, and the play of light on the subject matter. The work is painted from life with oil color of high quality. The painting technique is many-layer. The boards are painted."
Irina Trushkova was born in Russia and graduated from the Faculty of Art of Krasnodar State University in 1987. She has been professionally engaged in painting since 1991. Having participated in more than 30 exhibitions and Art Fair her works are now represented in private collections in Russia, Germany, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, the USA, France, Belgium, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Trushkova became a member of the Union of Russian Artists in 1995 and a laureate of the Culture and Art Scholarship of the Krasnodar Region Administration. Since 2004 she has lived and worked in Belgium. The traditional Dutch 17th-century painting inspired Trushkova because of its delicate and balanced approach to light, shadow, and color nuances. She mainly uses a multi-layered technique. Even if their process is slow and complex, it makes it possible to accentuate light effects, various textures, and, last but not least, transparency. "I paint still life compositions in oil. Observing solely from life I aspire to capture the movement of light as it reveals both the object and the surroundings, creating a sense of serenity and quiet. The search for balance and harmony in the composition is vitally important for me. The objects in my still life can be often very usual and simple: jugs, fruits, bowls, or flowers. It's wonderment about things and visual information that l want to strengthen in my works. I invite the viewer to re-enchant in the world around us, to discover the short but really precious moments of life. Seizing the incredible beauty of life is my deepest vocation." Soften My Heart
By Maryann Lucas
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
A still life from the masterful still-life artist, Maryann Lucas.
Artist Bio
Maryann Lucas lives and works in Sag Harbor. She is primarily self-taught but has also received instruction and support from wonderful and generous members of the East End artistic community. Working exclusively in oils, Lucas sets out almost daily to create plein aire landscapes and seascapes. In her studio, she works directly from life and captures the beauty of natural light as it transforms ordinary objects into visual delights.
Lucas wants her work to celebrate all that is well with this world and brilliant in this life, despite its pockets of darkness.
For me, she says, I know I am in the Presence of something beautiful, when it steals my breath, silences my mind, pushes out everything else and draws me in. I trust That. I use That to guide my hands as I arrange a still life or scan a landscape to determine where to set down my easel. Ultimately, That is what drives me to paint.
Becoming evermore skilled as an oil painter is another of Lucas goals. To that end she remains teachable, finding it refreshing and vital for her own growth to paint with others. She has studied with favorite artists including Michael Klein...
