Jaled Muyaes (Chilean/Mexican, 1921 - 2007). "Abstracted Still-Life". Pastel drawing. 1951. Signed "Kena" and dated, lower right. Triple matted under glass. Greens, Blues, golden toned yellows, and Oranges predominate.
Muyaes always signed his work "Kena," "S. Kena," "Silvestre Kena," or "Silvestre;" or, if initialed, "K." or "S.K.". Cream wove paper. Provenance: From the estate of Estela Ogazon Sanchez. Works by Muyaes, a noted Mexican painter and sculptor, rarely appear on the market. Born in Chile as Khaled Mujaes Morales, he moved to Mexico City as a young man and became an integral part of the intellectual circle there (e.g., he was intimately acquainted with the great Chilean poet Pablo Neruda during Neruda's Mexico City years). His parents were David Suleiman Mujaes (Lebanese), and Emma Morales Gajardo (Chilean). Frame size 24 3/8" x 19 1/2". Sheet Size: 16 15/16 x 12 in.
