About the Item
Jean-Pierre CAPRON (1921-1997)
Poppies and Daisies
Oil on canvas
Signed lower right
56 x 46 cm
Born in Cannes in 1921, Jean-Pierre Capron initially studied architecture in Lausanne. In 1945, he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of painter Eugène Narbonne, where he befriended fellow student Bernard Buffet. From 1970 onwards, both were represented by the Maurice Garnier gallery in Paris alongside Jean Jansem and Arnaud d'Hauterive. He set up his studio on the Left Bank, at 126 Boulevard du Montparnasse, and exhibited at the Salon d'Automne from 1949 onwards.
A painter committed to figurative art, Jean-Pierre Capron painted inanimate landscapes where only architecture stands out in a stripped-down natural setting. The simplicity of the forms, reduced to essential lines, and the colors, sometimes light, sometimes dark, that he used gave his painting a great purity and timelessness, as highlighted by the writer Philippe Soupault: “{Jean-Pierre Capron} wants to offer only what is lasting in the world of appearances. He is a painter who allows us to dream and to have confidence in the future, in his future.”*
The still life with a bouquet of poppies and daisies that we present here is imbued with a sense of melancholy. It reflects the artist's attachment to a form of expressive realism. He uses color with restraint and sobriety, giving pride of place to shades of midnight blue and green.

Jean-Pierre Capron
Jean-Pierre Capron was a French painter known for creating muted landscapes with a haunting, lonely feeling, yet with a hint of life in the emptiness. He studied architecture in Lausanne, Switzerland, then moved to Paris in 1945, where he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in the studio of Eugène Narbonne and formed a friendship with Bernard Buffet. Capron exhibited for the first time at the Salon d'Automne in 1949 and participated in several salons and group shows in France and abroad.

Large Naturalist Oil on Board, Papaver Orientale, Poppies in a Vase
Located in Cotignac, FR
Large Naturalist oil on board still life of poppies in a jar by Eduard Bauer-Bredt. The painting is signed and dated bottom left and signed, titled and with exhibition number to the back board. Presented in a deep patinated custom frame.
A magnificent, lovely bright, cheery and impactful floral still life. Bauer-Bredt has used brush and knife to create a wonderful atmospheric rendition of freshly picked poppies in a large ceramic jar. The pinks and reds of the flowers sing against the more subtle taupe hues of the jar and the green of the foliage. A really lovely composition beautifully rendered in the tradition of Edouard Manet, Fantin Lantour and Leon Dabo.
The artist Eduard Bauer-Bredt began his artistic studies in Ansbach. He became a pupil of the Orientalist painter Ferdinand Max Bredt...
