About the Item
The urban series of oil on panel paintings take their inspiration from architecture and the energy of the inner city, its vertical nature, and its humanly propelled intensity. 'Upward Thrust' is rendered in shocking yellow, and is part realism, part abstraction, and part impressionism. It has a vitality and high energy that references neon and light not found in nature. In the series we find intimate views of glass towers, neon signs, bits of nostalgia in the words from old advertising, and clues to a world in flux. The paintings are powerful punches of optimism that hang well on their own or clustered together. Surfaces are smooth and slick, traditional oil on panel.
