About the Item
Hayssam Masri (Lebanese, Italian, born 1965)
"My Brushes" 2003
Oil paint on canvas, stretcher bars
The artist signed the bottom left corner of the painting.
“My Brushes” is an intimate and self-referential still life, offering a rare glimpse into the artist’s private studio world. Rendered in thick, expressive oil paint, the composition centers on a glass vessel holding Masri’s own working brushes, their bristles splayed and worn, captured mid-use rather than at rest. The subject is modest, yet deeply personal, transforming utilitarian tools into a quiet portrait of process and presence.
Broad palette-knife strokes and layered impasto create a tactile surface that mirrors the physical act of painting itself. The circular rhythm of the jar contrasts with the sharp, angular thrust of the brush handles, generating a dynamic tension between order and spontaneity. “My Brushes” reflects a mature moment in Masri’s practice, where observation, memory, and materiality converge. The result is a contemplative studio still life that speaks to the intimacy of making and the quiet poetry found in the everyday rituals of an artist’s life.
About the Artist:
Masri is a passionate Italian, US-based artist whose work has been exhibited in the USA, the UK, Germany, Lebanon, Italy, and Norway. His work is varied and known especially in Europe and in Major collections - Ellen DeGeneres, Ringo Starr, Al Gore, and many more. Harnessing an insatiable desire for artistic discovery, innovation, and perfection, he dives into experimentation with openness and enthusiasm. As a result, his works are bright, expansive, and bold. Masri has developed a style that captures the Middle Eastern mood with a Lucien Freud brush touch. This style is completed with palette work, as the artist often goes into a trance-like state when creating these powerful expressions of the human experience.
Artist statement:
"I live four seasons every day - it is a humongous world of perceptions, conceptions, and achievements; a world of renewable psychological input and output fraught with flowing emotions, endurance, and pain. "
The painting comes with a certificate of authenticity and a letter of appraisal.

Masri Hayssam is an Italian Lebanese artist who was born in Tripoli-Lebanon. He moved to Italy in 1990 after experiencing the bloody civil war that lasted fifteen years. He also took a course in Drawing, Incision, and History of Art at the Academy of Art Florence. Since finishing his studies, he has worked as a full-time artist in his studio in Florence. His insatiable and agonizing feeling of unexpressed great potential inside of him is not fulfilled by the versatility in his work. He often feels that it needs to explode and express itself in different domains. He is always on the move discovering something artistically new and impressive; something significant with an eye-opening impact on the human psyche; something that does not let monotony and rote repetition take hold of his soul and the flow of his thoughts. Hayssam's art reflects his multicultural background, blending Middle Eastern and European influences with abstract and figurative elements. His work often explores the relationship between the natural and the artificial, the tangible and the intangible, and the visible and the invisible. Masri Hayssam's artistic journey is a testament to his commitment to self-expression and exploration. He is a master of paintings of the raw human condition.

"Veduta Verso Sera" 1998
Oil paint on wood panel
Signed by the artist on the bottom left corner and on the back of the painting.
“Veduta Verso Sera” is a richly textured landscape, completed in 1998 during a period when the artist was deeply invested in translating lived experience into painterly structure. The title, which evokes an evening view, aligns with the work’s tonal depth and shifting sense of light rather than a fixed geographic location. The composition unfolds through vigorous, layered brushwork, with sweeping passages of green and deep blue suggesting rolling terrain as daylight recedes. Masri’s palette is punctuated by sharp accents of yellow and red, which animate the surface and introduce moments of tension within the otherwise expansive landscape. These gestures pull the viewer forward, creating a sense of movement and immediacy, as though the scene is still unfolding.
