Very elegant, beautiful, whimsical and sparkly still life of white mug with yellow, blue, rust, lavender and black polka dots, a silver Russian tea glass, and lemons on a green/gray ground. Antonova's gift for evoking reflections and shimmery surfaces appears effortless and spontaneous.
This painting is not framed.
The artist's subject is still lifes of cups, plates, teapots, and dishes, singular for their freshness and beauty, but there is something playful about them as well – teacups teeter/tottering are jaunty and upbeat taking on a kind of personality of their own, polka dots are as endearing to adults as children, and everyone responds to the 'bling' and sparkle of gold and silver and Antonova’s extraordinary ability to paint its radiance. Occasional viewers make personal associations with their own or a relative’s porcelain collection, and have commissioned still lifes by the artist which incorporate treasured antiques.

Olga Antonova was born in Volgograd Russia in 1956 and graduated from the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg in 1980. Soon after graduation she immigrated to the US and has resided in the Boston area for many years. Her works have been seen in 34 one-person exhibitions and over 60 group shows in the US and Europe, articles have regularly appeared in “The Boston Globe,” “American Art Collector,” “Art News” and “The Boston Herald” among other publications , and her works are included in numerous private and public collections including the Print Collection of the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Museum, Rutgers University. She is also the recipient of an Artists Fellowship in Visual Art awarded by the City of Sacramento, CA.
Olga Antonova has been represented by the Beth Urdang Gallery since 2006.

Olga Antonova’s subject is compositions of extraordinarily elegant, beautiful and whimsical cups, plates, teapots, vases and dishes, but there is something playful about these paintings. Stacked teacups are also amusing, having a kind of jaunty and upbeat personality of their own. Polka dots are as endearing to adults as to children, and everyone responds to the bling and sparkle of gold and silver while marveling at Antonova’s seemingly effortless ability to paint these radiant details. This composition of rich patterns and intricate formal detail is the perfect complement to the more minimal shapes and brilliant yellow of the lemons, and Antonova's compositions are a wonderful twist on the classic traditions of still life painting. This work is unframed.
Antonova's paintings can be installed individually, they also work extremely well in groupings as part of a series.
