Authenticity will be confirmed in writing. Reinhold Max Eichler was born in 1872 in Hubertusburg, Mutzschen, Saxony, the son of a farmer. He initially studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1889 to 1893. He then transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich to study under Paul Hoecker. In 1896, he became a contributor to the magazines Jugend and Simplicissimus, for which he produced illustrations, and in 1899, he joined the artists' association Die Scholle. From 1903 onward, he worked exclusively for Jugend. Members of Die Scholle included, besides Eichler, Gustav Bechler, Hansl Bock, Ludwig Bock, Edward Cucuel, Erich Erler (Samaden), Fritz Erler, Max Feldbauer, Walter Georgi, Adolf Höfer, Adolf Münzer, Walter Püttner, Leo Putz, Franz Wilhelm Voigt, and Robert Weise. Die Scholle: In the late 1890s, several artists in Munich joined together to form an exhibition group, which initially appeared under the name "Group G" at the annual exhibition of the Munich Artists' Association in 1899. Their success encouraged them to found a formal artists' association called "Die Scholle" (The Clod). "Die Scholle" united artists of diverse styles, all of whom shared a tendency towards the simplification of nature. The influence of French painting is clearly evident in the work of many of the "Die Scholle" painters, although only a few achieved the abstract depiction of nature characteristic of Art Nouveau. The two artistic poles within "Die Scholle" were Fritz Erler (1868-1940) and Leo Putz (1869-1940). Both spent several years at the Académie Julian in Paris, but while Leo Putz was interested in the Impressionists' experiments with light, Fritz Erler discovered the work of the Nabis, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Puvis de Chavannes. Fritz Erler combined the powerful influence of these French masters with academic figure composition. Thus, his work testifies to a unique blend of tradition and modernity, closely resembling Art Nouveau and not uncommon in the Munich art scene. While Fritz Erler favored depictions of Germanic legends, Leo Putz's work primarily features female nudes, usually illuminated by the bright light of a sunny day. He portrays his figures in serene poses, conveying a natural and unaffected impression. Stylistically, his paintings are reminiscent of the compositions of his role models Renoir and Manet and also show some influence from Munich Art Nouveau. The artists of "Die Scholle" achieved considerable success in Munich through their tradition-conscious avant-garde style, and their influence can be traced into the 1940s. Almost all "Die Scholle" members published their works in the magazine "Jugend," which featured more than just Art Nouveau pieces. "Die Scholle" was also invited to exhibitions in the major art centers around 1900, such as Berlin and Vienna. Other important members included Reinhold Max Eichler, Erich Erler-Samaden, Adolf Münzer, and Max Feldbauer.
