This stunning post-cubist and colorist still life oil on board painting is by A. Rigollot (France, 20th Century).
Colorist painting is characterized by intense color use, which becomes the dominant characteristic of the resulting work of art, more important than its other qualities.
French Impressionism predicted this painting trend in the late 19th Century, which gained prominence in the early 20th Century with the Fauvists' work.
It has since surfaced in a wide range of individual styles and art movements outside of France, the most prominent being the Scottish Colorists, Polish Colorists, and American Color Field abstract painters.
This unique artwork depicts the artist's studio. It is an extremely vibrant composition in which the painter's universe is defined by the colors. A. Rigollot, 1958, signed in the lower right corner.
