My work explores the complex relationship between nature and culture, creating invented worlds that feel both familiar and strange. This collection, titled "Veiled Realities," brings together landscapes and still lifes that question our perception of the real. Drawing from my personal experiences with the California landscape, some works depict grand, sweeping vistas with a moody color palette that echoes the unsettling beauty of wildfire skies. Other paintings shift focus to intimate domestic spaces, where common objects and plants are re-framed to reflect on art historical traditions. By presenting these different scenes side by side, I invite viewers to consider how our understanding of "place" is always layered with personal experience, memory, and influence.
My process deliberately blurs the lines between what is real and what is a construct. I begin by digitally collaging photographs, then translate these manipulated images onto canvas using a variety of techniques—from precise hand painting to the more spontaneous gestures of spray paint and airbrush. This approach creates an intentional tension between the natural and the contrived. Ultimately, through this layered process, I seek to challenge the viewer's perception of realism itself. Each painting is a reflection on how we see and depict the world, revealing that our reality is often a carefully constructed image, a surface that both shows and conceals.

Robert Minervini’s practice encompasses painting, printmaking, mural painting, and site specific public artworks.
His work examines an evolving relationship between nature and culture through the depiction of spatial environments. He utilizes tropes from art history, science fiction, film, and references from quotidian life to depict places and spaces both real and imagined.
Through grand landscapes and intricate still lives his work addresses the impact of humanity on the landscape. The version of reality he presents, displayed through saccharin sunsets and lush foliage, is a form of hyper naturalism, one that is exaggerated and created through the intervention of the camera and computer. Diving through a dense archive of imagery both found and personal, he typically makes digital sketches for each composition, which are then transferred to the canvas and painted using a multitude of painting techniques.
He’s interested in the many ways acrylic paint can be applied to create an image and builds his paintings through a laborious process of layering paint through hand cut stencils, hand painting, airbrushing, spray painting, and silk screen printing. He is drawn to the artificially flat nature of acrylic paints and their properties, which is often in contrast and dialogue with the subjects he approaches.
Minervini’s naturalism is one that is tethered to the rich traditions of western painting, while striving to make new interpretations of a contemporary idea about beauty and the sublime.

Robert Minervini
Robert Minervini is an artist working in painting, drawing, printmaking, murals and site-specific public art. His work examines spatial environments and notions of utopia in large-scale cityscapes, landscapes, and floral still-life arrangements, which address the ecological impact of humanity.
Minervini received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and his BFA from Tyler School of Art. He has an extensive exhibition history and has participated in artist-in-residence programs at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and the Headlands Center of the Arts. Minervini's work has been reviewed and published in the LA Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Art Ltd. Magazine, Beautiful Decay Magazine and New American Paintings. He has completed multiple public art works through the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and the San Francisco Arts Commission. He currently lives and works in San Francisco and Oakland, California.

Calvert’s current paintings investigate the relationship between digital media and the reception and perception of images, and utilizes diverse technologies such as fresco, 3D modeling, AI and data manipulation through code. She is especially interested in the evolution of pictorial space. Today we view our screens and the world they occupy as a shallowly layered space of overlapping desktop windows. The picture plane has tilted up again from the flatbed to float in front of our eyes. Calvert’s paintings in turn depict an intermediate space, where the verticality of the still life paintings cohabitate with these digital panes.
Dutch floral still life paintings encapsulate multiple concerns. Their subjects were botanical fantasies, emblems of an economic mirage that has contemporary corollaries. Most important to Calvert’s pictorial concerns, they depict ephemeral things in shallow and diagrammatic space - they are all foreground. They contain an abundance of visual information in overwhelming density, creating an allover resolution; a visual field that is equivalent to digital noise. By making painterly interventions into reproductions, Calvert attempts to dissolve the layer between the resolution of the source image and abstraction of the painted mark.

Tiffany Calvert has exhibited her work in the US and abroad including Lawrimore Project in Seattle, E.TAY Gallery in New York, the Speed Museum in Louisville and Cadogan Contemporary in London. Residencies include the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, I-Park, and ArtOmi International Arts Center where she received a Geraldine R. Dodge Fellowship. Calvert has received grants from the Great Meadows Foundation and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Her work was recently profiled by critic John Yau in the online journal Hyperallergic.
