About the Item

"Hanging in there" is a 10x10 original oil pastel drawing on paper by artist Robin Frisella PSA-MP, IAPS/MC. Depicted is a bright blue bunch of hydrangeas hanging upside down. The sprig of flowers is hanging by a bright greens stem taped to the stark black background which makes the vibrant blues and white pop dramatically. Behind the hydrangeas in a white and blue striped handkerchief which is also hanging against the black background by a pin. Fine art has the gentle power to reflect the best things in life . . . beauty, hopefulness, serenity. The hands of artist Robin Frisella harness that power in pastel works that are as stunning as they are calming. An apple in an antique bowl. Ripe pears just waiting to be eaten but, for now, somehow being simply elegant. Pale pink tulips that pop against the white of a treasured old vase. The paintings Robin creates have a photo-realistic quality. But they are hardly images captured in a flash. She painstakingly arranges the objects she has chosen to paint – often pieces of nostalgia that are striking in their antiquity and grace. She blends pure pigment on sanded paper to artfully achieve the tones, lights and shadows of these objects she has so deliberately assembled. The results are still lifes in sheer splendor, memories and moods come to life through layer upon layer of pastel patiently stroked in natural light. In 2000, after taking a local pastel class, Robin found her calling. Art would be more than a pastime. It would be her life’s work. She left her job of 18 years and began teaching art herself. The first piece she entered in a juried competition won Best of Show. As her successes and followers grew, she decided to start her own gallery. Frisella Fine Art Studio opened in Candia, NH in 2006.

Sean Farrell, "Morning Glory", 16x12 Pear Grapes Floral Still Life Oil Painting
Located in Saratoga Springs, NY
"Morning Glory", is a 16x12 oil painting on board by artist Sean Farrell. Featured are two pears on a pedestal mixed with freshly bloomed morning glories. Dramatic light combined with a dark background make this piece a bold and blooming composition. The rich blue of the flowers contrast nicely with the subtle tones of red found in the grapes. About the artist: “As I paint at my easel each day in the studio, I approach creating art with the idea of continually developing my artistic understanding and enhancing my personal expression,” writes Sean Farrell of his philosophy of life as an artist. Farrell, who grew up in a small town where there were few opportunities for formal art education, began drawing on his own at a young age and through intense study of the great artists he found in library books began to nurture his innate talent. He writes of his younger years, “Looking at great paintings always excited me and by visiting museums [and] studying numerous art books…I gradually began to increase my artistic understanding,” which led Farrell to teach himself to paint with oils in the late 1980’s and then eventually to attend a painting workshop in New Mexico in the early 1990’s where he met numerous professional artists, who inspired him to a full-time artistic career. Internationally, the prestigious Florence Biennale invited the artist to participate and exhibit work in Florence, Italy. NYARTS Magazine covered the exhibition and in their published review gave the following praise to the works of Sean Farrell… “Works deserving special attention was Sean Farrell’s exquisitely painted flower and fruit arrangements. Eye-catching with his use of dramatically bold colors mixed with delicate detail in a very modern old-master style.” Choosing to travel extensively throughout Italy and also to other regions of Europe over attending art school, the artist has studied and learned from the great master works in the history of art. His paintings reveal his affection for the 17th century Italian and Dutch painters while still remaining truly unique. Mr. Farrell’s works are distinctive for their elegant and graceful compositions, his rich jewel like color, and an elevated sensitivity to the beautiful nuances of light. His works reveal a master’s touch and a quiet ease. Sean Farrell is internationally recognized and a highly collected artist. He is known for his vivid and luminous oil paintings...
