In Razzle Dazzle Raspberries, Sarah Eden transforms an everyday subject into a captivating still-life celebration. Painted in oil on board, the composition captures two ripe raspberries glistening with life against a velvety dark background. Eden’s realism style shines through in the precise rendering of texture—the soft bloom on the fruit’s surface, the delicate sheen of reflected light, and the subtle shadows that give the berries their sculptural presence.
Her colour palette is rich yet restrained, dominated by vibrant crimson tones and accented by the fresh green of a single leaf. This contrast between warmth and coolness creates a sense of harmony and elegance. Eden’s mastery of chiaroscuro imbues the piece with quiet drama, transforming these small fruits into luminous symbols of abundance and beauty. Razzle Dazzle Raspberries invites the viewer to pause and rediscover the splendour in simplicity through Eden’s lens of contemporary realism.
Artist Biography:
Sarah Eden has always had a deep passion for art, but her path to becoming a professional artist was unconventional. After earning a degree in languages, she pursued a career in sales and marketing, soon realizing that her true calling lay elsewhere. Art had been an integral part of her life since studying A-Level Art in school, and with the unwavering support of her family, she took a leap of faith into the art world over a decade ago—and has never looked back.
Initially exploring figurative art, Sarah quickly established herself as a full-time animal portrait artist. In 2014, she officially registered as self-employed, dedicating herself entirely to painting. Her workweek is filled with enthusiasm and excitement, as she finds immense joy in bringing her subjects to life on canvas.
As a realist painter, Sarah specializes in highly detailed oil paintings of wildlife, capturing everything from native British species to exotic animals. Based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, she draws inspiration from the diverse wildlife in her surroundings. Her work is driven by a deep appreciation for the individuality and beauty of animals—particularly those that are often overlooked. Over the past ten years, her commissions have reached collectors worldwide, with recent works finding homes in Milan, New York, and Tasmania. While private commissions remain an important part of her practice, she now focuses on developing her own collections, highlighting unconventional subjects that deserve recognition.
Recently, Sarah has expanded her artistic practice to include still-life painting, which she refers to as "fruit portraits." The rich colors and textures offer a refreshing contrast to the fur and feathers of her wildlife subjects. Constantly evolving as an artist, she embraces new challenges to refine her craft. Through her highly detailed, lifelike paintings, Sarah Eden celebrates the beauty and complexity of the natural world in all its forms.

“In my still life work, I aim to elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary, using the timeless language of fruit and other culinary objects to explore the relationship between light, shadow and form. My ‘fruit portraits’, as I like to refer to them, are rendered in a dramatic chiaroscuro style, to draw the viewer’s eye into the heart of the composition creating a sense of depth, volume and tactile presence. My use of chiaroscuro is not merely a technical device, but a means of imbuing my subjects with a sense of mystery and allure. By carefully balancing light and shadow, I strive to create a sense of drama and emotional resonance, inviting the viewer to contemplate the beauty of the everyday and to appreciate the simple pleasures of life.
By combining technical skill with a deep sense of wonder and curiosity, I strive to create still life paintings that are both beautiful and thought-provoking, inspiring the viewer to see the mundane, in a new and unexpected way.”- Sarah Eden

Mary Ellen Johnson is internationally recognized as one of the top Photo Realist painters working today whose extraordinary area of expertise is large-scale, unimaginably realistic, stunningly beautiful and delightful images of food. "Berries and Cream"
Oil on Wood Panel
24 x 20 Inches
Note: This painting is framed in white wood.
The artist has also completed many commissioned food paintings including the Canadian Government's request for images of 5 of Canada's favorite foods which subsequently became stamp images - and The Cheesecake Factory's two commissions for their corporate headquarters and the owners' Malibu beach house.
A quote from the artist:
“I make the panels large to give a monumental feeling to the painting when viewed. These large images not only confront the viewer with their size but with their tremendous sense of extravagance. My work explores the deep connection that food has with humanity.”
Mary Ellen Johnson
Johnson further describes herself as a ‘Precision Realist’ whose primary subject is food. Sold works include paintings of PB & J sandwiches, pancakes with blueberries and syrup, banana splits, ice cream, hot dogs, cupcakes, waffles, muscles and sushi, among others. Unequaled for their brilliance and dramatic depictions of mundane subjects with their connotations of nostalgia, comfort and tradition, it is also her scale, cropping and over the top technical skill that renders these works so overwhelmingly appealing!
