Artist Zac Elletson works primarily with oil, charcoal, pencil, and conté. His work explores the interactions of color, composition, skilled drawing and a faithful representation of subject to convey a meaningful experience to the viewer. Zac has stated that his approach to painting is grounded in the principles of the late 19th century representational masters, while also being influenced by contemporary artists, techniques and subjects.
Isolation is at once a blessing and a bane for artists. Without enough of it, artists are too distracted to pursue their art with the necessary discipline and focus to attain greatness. With too much of it, artists starve for the inspiration, connection and strength that is derived from communion with like-minded souls. It is said that life always finds a way and that nature abhors a vacuum and we marvel at life’s persistence in the face of relentless obstacles. And like the story of life, the story of the artist far removed from the centers of artistic community who perseveres against all odds to find his path and achieve his potential marvels us as well. This is the story of Zac Elletson. Raised in rural Montana, Zac had natural ability but lacked the resources many urban artists take for granted. It wasn’t until he left Montana for university that a window opened onto a world he never dreamed existed, a world ripe with possibilities and mentors that would help guide him on his artist journey. Zac now calls Arizona home, and he credits FASO with making his art more accessible to his fans.
