About the Item
"Watermelon Bay" is an original abstract archival pigment print made with digital and alternative photographic processes. Image measures 6.5" x 6.5" on 12.5" x 11.5" 100% rag paper. Signed in the lower margin and inscribed A.P. (artist's proof).
Ava Blitz uses digital technology as an experimental tool, the camera and the computer serving as painterly and draftsman’s/printmakers instruments. Digital artifacts, halos, blurs, and pixels, often considered to be mistakes, are used as part of Blitz's language. She likens her original Archival Pigment Prints to paintings or drawings. She sometimes paints or draws into these images, creating a layering of process. The images recall conventions found in Eastern and Western imagery, from classical to popular culture. Each one takes its own intuitive path to completion, resulting in a new magical reality.
Ava Blitz is a visual artist who currently divides her time between studio work in sculpture, works on paper, photography, and public art. Blitz's public works and commissions are many, including installations at the Philadelphia International Airport and the University City Science Center, created under Philadelphia’s 1% for Art Programs, and as far away as Tokyo, Japan. Ava Blitz served on an International Sculpture Symposium panel in Japan, and has lectured on public art for the American Institute of Architects, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, and the Michener Art Museum. She has been the recipient of numerous honors, awards, and fellowships, many of which have funded her public art projects. These include grants from the Japan Foundation, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Leeway Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, and the Jerome Foundation. Blitz has shown locally at the Michener Art Museum, the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Grounds for Sculpture, the Noyes Museum, and the Allentown Art Museum. From 1986 to 1998 she taught at Bryn Mawr College, where she directed the fine art department. While there, she developed a comprehensive 'Works on Paper' program, teaching drawing, painting, and printmaking, and sculpture on paper.
This piece will be signed, titled, and dated on front or back according to buyer's specifications.

Silent Echo II: abstract light
color photograph w/ silver, blue, red,
green
By Diane Lachman
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
This is an archival photograph printed with Epson Ultra Chrome Pigmented Ink on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Rag paper with a 2 inch white border. It is part of the"Refracted World" series, and is from an edition of 50 prints. It is signed on the back..
Diane Lachman’s photographic pandemic project began in March 2020, when Covid 19 forced us to shelter at home. After a year of experimentation with the refraction of natural light through prisms, she created complex and vibrant images that reflect our experiences during these tumultuous times. By observing the change of the position and quality of light and shadow each day, she developed a new sense of the passage of time. Her photographs reflect the desolate days of this period as well as the bright days when we experienced hope. The "Silent Echo" series recalls the strange quiet and isolation she experienced during the shut down. The daily act of photographing the color and light gave her a sense of balance and purpose.
Lachman’s inventive abstract paintings and photographs emphasize the expressive power of color. Her work has been the subject of twelve solo shows. Most recently, an exhibition of her pandemic photography project: “Refracted World” was shown in July 2021 at Muse Gallery in Philadelphia. She participates in many juried and invitational group shows. Currently, Lachman is the acting director of Muse Gallery in Philadelphia where she has been a member since 2010. Her paintings are represented in numerous private and corporate collections, including Temple University School of Medicine, the Howard Gittis Student Center Art Collection at Temple, the Art Collection at Park Towne Place in Philadelphia, and the Lankenau Medical Center.
Lachman studied at Rhode Island School of Design and the Cleveland Institute of Art. She earned her BFA and MFA degrees at the University of Pennsylvania, where she taught drawing and color theory from 1993 to 2013. Her intuitive approach to her work complements her years of teaching Josef Albers’ “Interaction of...
