About the Item
Spanish artist Concha Prada (born 1963, León, Spain) explores the boundaries between photography and painting, using photographic language as a means to reflect on pictorial space and abstraction.
In Rastro VIII (2008), Prada extends her long-standing research into the relationship between image, gesture, and domestic space. The work belongs to a series in which she employs the technique of the photogram —a photograph made without a camera, where an object leaves its trace on light-sensitive paper when exposed to a light source. Created in total darkness, each image becomes the result of gesture, chance, and physical presence, blurring the limits between photography and painting.
For this series, Prada uses a humble household object —a mop— as the tool that produces the image, transforming an everyday item into an agent of abstraction. The result is a large-scale, visually captivating work that unites conceptual rigor with expressive spontaneity, emphasizing the tension between control and accident.
Her work has been exhibited in leading Spanish institutions and galleries and forms part of significant public and private collections dedicated to contemporary photography.
