Interditado (2024) belongs to Eduardo Rezende’s acclaimed Janela do Tempo series, in which the artist explores the poetic tension between decay, memory, and the constant transformation of urban and coastal landscapes. In this work, Rezende turns his lens toward an abandoned interior, where collapsed tiles, fractured walls, and layered textures reveal the silent history of a space marked by erosion and time. The composition is divided into two interconnected scenes: an interior corridor that recedes through multiple doorframes, and a close-up of a weathered exterior wall bearing the faded red stencil “Interditado”—a declaration of prohibition and abandonment.
The image contrasts stillness and collapse, structure and fragility. Soft pastel colors, worn surfaces, and the debris-strewn floor evoke a sense of suspended time, as if the environment were holding the memory of what once existed. The blue sky visible through the broken ceiling introduces a subtle sense of hope or continuity, while the peeling paint and exposed bricks underscore the inevitability of transformation.
As in the broader Janela do Tempo series, Rezende transforms spaces in ruin into meditative visual narratives. Rather than documenting decay, he invites viewers to contemplate the cycles of construction, destruction, and renewal that shape both landscapes and human experience.
