Pescador (2024) is part of Eduardo Rezende’s Billboard series, a body of work in which large-scale urban façades become both surface and subject. In this series, Rezende appropriates architectural skins - billboards, building envelopes, and modular panels, as visual frameworks that merge photography, public imagery, and contemporary urban life.
In this work, the figure of a fisherman appears fragmented across vertical architectural divisions, as if embedded within the façade itself. The composition evokes the scale and language of outdoor advertising, while subverting its purpose: instead of promoting consumption, the image presents a quiet, contemplative moment of human labor. The fisherman’s gesture, steady, repetitive, and grounded, stands in contrast to the rigid geometry and graphic rhythm of the structure, creating a tension between tradition and modernity.
The layering of image and architecture blurs distinctions between inside and outside, image and structure, nature and city. Rezende transforms a documentary scene into a visual meditation on visibility, labor, and presence in the contemporary landscape. Earth-toned hues and softened contrasts reinforce the work’s sense of stillness, while subtle distortions recall reflections on glass façades and large-scale urban displays.
As with the broader Billboard series, Pescador invites the viewer to reconsider how images occupy public space and how everyday human narratives can reclaim monumental urban surfaces. The work bridges fine art photography and architectural intervention, offering a powerful yet understated visual statement.
