Abstract Metal Shape in Rocky Landscape - Esoteric Art Photograph
Photo depicting a curved, metallic sculpture resting on a rocky ground by Y. Y. Meru (American b. 1923 d. 2009.) The sculpture appears to be another piece by Y. Y. Meru, entitled "Attunement." The metal sculpture is polished and in focus, with various shapes and light reflected and bending in its surface. The bare rocks the shape rests upon are slightly out of focus, creating an abstracted background. Visible in the reflection of the shape is the horizon line, the blue sky, and the warped figure of the photographer. The entire photograph has a tungsten hue to it.
Framed size: 20.25" H x 16.25" W
The piece is in a heavy metal frame and weighs 11.5 lbs.
Bronze metal placard attached to the back states that it is print 32/33 and was printed by Meteor Photography Co. Color Printing Laboratory in Detroit, Michigan on May 15, 1970. The signature reads "Y. Y. Meru" and features a drawing of the solar cross with four lines coming out of it.
Y. Y. Meru is the pseudonym of Clarence Arthur Foy. Foy was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania on January 7, 1923. He was the youngest of four children and the son of a Reverend. He worked throughout his life as an author, sculptor, photographer, and composer. His wife, Chanda A. Y. Meru assisted him in his various creative practices. Meru was an active member of the Order of Freemasons, Y. Y. Meru being the name given to him by the Masons in 1968 in recognition of his intellectual endeavors. In 1981 he was given the title of Scottish Right Avatar by the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and documents from this time recognize him as the 32nd order Freemason. Throughout the 70s and 80s, Meru worked on a series of 16 polished bronze sculptures, one of which (Attunement) is seen in this photograph. Meru passed away in Monterey, California in May of 2009.
