About the Item

Geometric Shapes with Seascape and Moon - Esoteric Art Photograph Photograph of an open case which displays two more photographs by Y. Y. Meru (American b. 1923 d. 2009.) The case rests atop a rock with the soft horizon line of the ocean in the background. The moon sits close to the top right corner of the case, slightly out of focus. The case and the rock are bathed in red light, contrasting with the blue of the ocean and the sky. Within the case are prints of two more photographs, both featuring metal heptagrams positioned within a landscape. Framed size: 19.75" H x 19.75" W Image size: 15.5" H x 15.5" W Writing on the back indicates that it is print number 1 of 2 and was printed on September 9, 1981 while the photograph was take on July 5, 1977. It is dedicated to Jane and signed Y. Y. Meru with a solar cross featuring radiating lines under the signature. Y. Y. Meru is the pseudonym of Clarence Arthur Foy. Foy was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania on January 7, 1923. He was the youngest of four children and the son of a Reverend. He worked throughout his life as an author, sculptor, photographer, and composer. His wife, Chanda A. Y. Meru assisted him in his various creative practices. Meru was an active member of the Order of Freemasons, Y. Y. Meru being the name given to him by the Masons in 1968 in recognition of his intellectual endeavors. In 1981 he was given the title of Scottish Right Avatar by the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and documents from this time recognize him as the 32nd order Freemason. Meru passed away in Monterey, California in May of 2009.
