Echoes
The series of collaged diptychs, which pairs photographs of women over 50 (myself and others) and photos of the natural world, speaks of connections between women and nature and the search for meaning. One of the benefits of growing older is the feeling that I am in the process of coming back to the little girl I once was. All the things I loved when I was four years old are still things I love today. Hydrangeas and rugosa roses are still among my closest friends. The natural world is still my solace. It’s where I go to connect more deeply with life in its most elemental form and where I go to both lose and subsequently find myself again. It’s where I go to remember who I am, to remember that I’m not separate from nature, not simply just a part of it, but I am nature. Wild and pure nature. It is is who we are. The human species would be wise to do everything in its power to protect the natural world. In saving it, we also save ourselves.
The collages in they series are made from hand-distressed archival pigment prints, ink. Given that each collage bears the work of the artist’s hand, each piece is unique.

Unique Lith Silver Gelatin Print. Signed and dated verso by John Casado. “One indication that we have entered a new era of creativity is the photographs of John Casado. His nudes reveal new attitudes and visions that stamp him firmly as an artist who differs from his predecessors of the past 170 years. In the past two centuries, the nude has evolved slowly, but there is now a decided change.” David...

Born in Zurich, Switzerland, Brigitte studied at Zurich University and received her MA in Social and Photo History in 1996. In the following years she established herself as an fine art photographer. She moved to New York and received her MFA in Fine Art Photography and Related Media at Parsons The New School of Design in 2007. The main issues in her works lie in her interest in the study of the gaze, the interplay between absence and presence in a photographic image, and the fact that the reading of a photograph is most often triggered by a collective memory. She explores the media itself and its close connection to themes like decay, memory, death and transitoriness.
Brigitte Lustenberger has shown nationally and internationally in both solo and group shows. She had Solo Shows at the Museée de l’Elysée in Lausanne/Switzerland, at Walter Keller’s Scalo Gallery in Zurich and New York, at Le Maillon...
