About the Item
American photographer Burt Glinn photographed the Hollywood star in conversation with Mike Todd and film director John Huston for a “Stop Arthritis” event which took place in New York City at the famous Sardi’s restaurant followed by the 21 Club.
Marilyn Monroe advocated for good causes including civil rights. She was especially generous with children and offered assistance to charities such as the Milk Fund for Babies and the March of Dimes. Artist’s Bio:
Born 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, photographer Burt Glinn worked for LIFE magazine before joining Magnum photo agency. He photographed personalities throughout the 1950s and 60s, continuing to work commercially and editorially for more than five decades in the US and abroad on assignment, until his death in 2008. The artist photographed revolutionary leader Fidel Castro entrance into Havana, Cuba, celebrity and art luminaries such as Andy Warhol and Helen Frankenthaler. Subject matter included the social scene of the rich, the dirtiness of politics, and the humorous. Glinn received numerous awards for his editorial and commercial photography.
