Image of Sammy Davis Junior, 1959 by American photographer Burt Glinn was shot on Madison Avenue in New York after Sammy Davis Jr.'s last performance at the Copacabana nightclub in Times Square. The portrait of Sammy Davis Jr., a legendary African American celebrity, singer, dancer, actor, and comedian, is an 11” x 8.5” photograph on Epson paper. Photographer's blind-stamp recto (front of photo) and the Glinn estate signature on verso (photo back). Provenance: Glinn Estate *** Artist’s Bio: "Born 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, photographer Burt Glinn worked for LIFE magazine before joining Magnum photo agency. He photographed personalities throughout the 1950s and 60s, continuing to work commercially and editorially for more than five decades in the US and abroad on assignment, until his death in 2008. The artist photographed revolutionary leader Fidel Castro entrance into Havana, Cuba, celebrity and art luminaries such as Andy Warhol and Helen Frankenthaler. Subject matter included the social scene of the rich, the dirtiness of politics, and the humorous. Glinn received numerous awards for his editorial and commercial photography.
