From the limited Electa Editrice Portfolio dedicated to Eadweard Muybridge, published in Milan, 1981/82, in an edition of 1,000 copies. Each plate was printed as a fine héliogravure (photogravure) on specially developed paper.
This plate depicts a young girl holding a watering can, captured in a grid of sequential frames that record the action of walking and pouring water. The imagery originates from Muybridge’s landmark Animal Locomotion studies (c. 1884–1887, University of Pennsylvania), a project that revolutionized the analysis of movement and profoundly influenced modern art and early cinema.
Clarity note: This print is after Eadweard Muybridge (20th-century photogravure from the Electa portfolio), not a 19th-century original print.
Sheet approx. 41 × 30.8 cm (11.5 × 15.5 in). Offered framed in a simple black frame with conservation mat. Very good condition; light toning consistent with age.
Eadweard Muybridge (1830–1904), English photographer and pioneer of motion studies. Famous for his Animal Locomotion project (1884–1887), he decomposed human and animal movement into sequential frames using multiple cameras. His research influenced Cubism, Futurism, Francis Bacon, Duchamp, and the invention of cinema through his zoopraxiscope (1879).
