Artist Bio:
Édouard Boubat (1923–1999) was a French humanist photographer known for his poetic and empathetic images of everyday life, a style he developed after enduring forced labor during World War II. After attending École Estienne for graphic arts, he bought his first camera in 1946 and soon won the Kodak Prize, beginning his career at Réalités magazine. His most celebrated works include his first photograph, "Little Girl with Dead Leaves" (1946), and portraits like "Lella" (1947), which capture moments of innocence, beauty, and the human spirit against a backdrop of post-war hardship.
