About the Item
The black-and-white photograph features a captivating view of the Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs) in Venice, taken in 1954 by Erich Andres. Framed by the narrow canals, the bridge looms overhead, its ornate architecture serving as a striking contrast to the rustic buildings that line the waterway. In the foreground, a traditional gondola rests serenely against the wall, its elegant shape adding a touch of romance to the scene. A few gondoliers navigate the canal, engaging in their daily routines amidst the timeless charm of Venice. The play of light on the water enhances the tranquil atmosphere, inviting viewers to imagine the rich history that surrounds this iconic landmark.
Erich Andres, born in Germany in 1905 and passing away in 1992, started his photography career in 1920 and was one of the early adopters of the Leica camera. His works have been displayed in various prestigious institutions, including the Civil War Museum in Salamanca, Spain, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Industrial Museum in Oberhausen, Germany. Notably, in 1951, he contributed to Edward Steichen's acclaimed exhibition "The Family of Man" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
This print is a new Fine Art Print on high-quality paper (Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta) and is produced by Whitewall. It will be shipped to you in a tube to minimize shipping costs.
