About the Item
This black and white photograph captures a classic street scene in Las Vegas, likely from the 1950s or 1960s. The image showcases the Fremont Street area with its bright neon signs and vintage casinos, including the Golden Nugget, Lucky Strike, and Horseshoe Hotel and Casino. Large illuminated marquees and signs advertise casinos, bingo halls, and saloons, reflecting the mid-century Americana style.
In the foreground, two men in vintage suits and fedora hats walk along the bustling street, while other pedestrians and parked classic 1950s automobiles line the road. The background features additional casino signs, including a recognizable "Vegas Vic" cowboy neon sign.
Andres, born in 1905 in Germany, began his photography career in 1920 and was one of the pioneers to use a Leica camera. His work is featured in several prestigious museums, including the Civil War Museum in Salamanca, Spain, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Industrial Museum in Oberhausen, Germany. Andres was also a contributor to Edward Steichen's landmark exhibition "The Family of Man" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1951.
The print is new, a Fine Art Print on Illford Black and White Paper quality paper made by Whitewall. It comes to you in a tube.
