About the Item

Estate stamped on reverse Archival pigment print Accompanied by Magnum Photos COA Available in two sizes: Paper size: 20 x 24 inches, edition of 21 Paper size: 24 x 34 inches, edition of 21 In 1960, LIFE magazine commissioned Eve Arnold to photograph Malcolm X, then a rising figure in the Nation of Islam, a Black nationalist movement advocating for a separatist and self-sufficient society. Over the course of a year, Arnold followed members to meetings and rallies, capturing Malcolm X not only as a charismatic leader but as a man of depth and complexity. Her compelling body of work documents the vitality and dynamism of the Black Muslims during a turbulent era in American racial politics, running parallel to the broader Civil Rights movement. Presented in collaboration with Magnum Photos.
