About the Item
This piece is a triptych of three original photographs from the original negatives, shot by George Barris in 1962, and printed at a later date. These photographs of Marilyn Monroe are part of a series entitled "The Last Photos". They were taken on Santa Monica beach just two weeks before Marilyn Monroe's death and are considered to be last photos ever taken of the icon. Each photograph is hand signed by Barris on the recto and bear the copyright stamp that reads "George Barris/Marilyn Monroe, Edward Weston Collection, All Rights Reserved" from 1987 on the verso. Each piece is mounted on a board and measure 5 x 7 inches.

George Barris
George Barris was born on June 14th, 1922, in Manhattan, New York City. When his brother bought him a box camera for his sixth birthday, he began a lifelong love affair with photography. In addition to his timeless work with Marilyn Monroe, Barris has captured unforgettable images of icons like Steve McQueen, Charlie Chaplin, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Clark Gable and Elizabeth Taylor.
